профилактика - дело нужное

Запланированную на вчера репетицию пришлось отменить... Наконец Танька дошла до того, чтоб позвать мастера сделать профилактику на наших (спасибо map_ka за картинку) А то мне уж страшновато было в Вильно ехать вот так - был шанс, что инструмент, сделанный кривыми руками на Борисовской мебельной фабрике музыкальных инструментов, может взорваться в самую неподходящую минуту. Зато завтра - в бой с новыми силами и обновленными цимбалами! :-)

V porjadke xvastovstva: moy novyj instrument vesit chut' bol'she 5-ti (pyati!!!) kilo. Mozhno elegantno nosit' na pleche. Po inzhenernoj chasti muzhik genialen. Esli b on esche slushal, chto emu pro stroj govorjat, tseny b emu ne bylo.

Well, let's see first how it holds up. It's a beta version - the first instrument that he built with this tuning. This I can tell so far:

Pluses

- weight, around 5 kg
- time/turnaround - took him less than a month to build it.
- price - this was based on his "entry-level" dulcimer/tsimbl model using the cheapest woods. He charged me $450. For comparison, he charges $1,800 for a guitar (with fancy woods).
- really nice sound considering the above. I can't imagine what his better instruments (the ones made with fancy woods) sound. It's tuned like an alto.
- really nice overall workmanship.

Minuses

- because of the weight considerations, he changed the dimensions (well, he's never seen a belarussian tsimbaly, he just guessed at the proportions). It's narrower and the space between the notes is much smaller. It does take some time to adjust.
- he uses different a kind of strings (more like guitar), they are softer and they stretch, so I have to tune it every day. Although, the maker said, that in about 2-3 months it will settle.
- the "hemorrhoidal factor" - he did $!#% up the tuning. The bridge is not misplaced, rather, it's missing a bridge. In fact even by looking at the picture and remembering some physics it's clear that the instrument can't be tuned the way it should be. The worst was that when I called this guy, he totally denied it and said that he did the tuning we agreed on. He also refused to provide measures, saying he places his bridges by listening. Luckily, the fix is straightforward and Roger (ruvithetsimbler.com) will help me.

Oh well, a post turned into a rant. But I feel I got a great instrument, and I'll surely recommend this guy with caveats.

uffff.... спасибо большое, что не посчитала за труд всё это изложить, но оно того стоит. Вряд ли у меня в Штатах будет месяц, тем более, чтобы сидеть регулярно с мастером, но на будущее возьму на заметку. Особенно интересно, как он по слуху перегородки ставил:-)
