JetLag Fest
Jun. 28th, 2009 07:35 pmOkay, so here we are, back in NYC, after a kind of interesting event, the JetLag Fest,
jetlagfest right from the Indian Head camping out of Bloomsburg, PA. The idea of the festival initially was to bring Mr Fyodorov, the soloist of A'uktsy'on, a popular rock group from Russia. But then many other artists representing all different styles were invited to perform. So, I was asked to come by Psoy, AKA
khaloymes. It was for the first time over the festival's decennial history that Yiddish/klezmer music was presented at a basically Russian festival. For many it was quite a revelation. Frank London joined our semi-improvised / semi-chaotic band right upon our arrival there. There were a couple more kids from New Jersey, one on the tuba and the other on the trombone, sounding enthusiastic, even somewhat creative yet green. Zina Pozen of Seattle, Dan of Chicago on the accordions, Ibrahim on the djembe and someone else (
bigbeat66) on the guitar joined our band, bringing in that sweet feeling of jam.
Later in the evening, after Olga
chikina's utmost artistic performance, Psoy, Frank, me and a couple of other guys started our second set, that time on the main stage, the latter being not that big though.
Honestly, I did not very much enjoy Mr Fyodorov's performance, despite the fact that Frank London and Marc Ribot appeared on one of A'u'ktsy'on's latest albums. Not that the bard sang that bad, no. It was just not interesting to me, musically. Well, anyway it was all fun.
map_ka and I met there some really nice and open-minded people, among them a couple having had immigrated from Minsk 13 years ago.
And here are some pictures of JetLag Fest.
