Yep, we did it!
The first Yiddish dance party in Brooklyn ever. Three hours of live music and dancing with Deborah Strauss leading the dance, Jeff Warschauer, Pete Rushefsky, [livejournal.com profile] ruby_tooz and myself playing (well, some other occasional players added their talents from time to time, too). A pleasant surprise was Michael Alpert's appearance. He didn't take his violin out of the case though. Instead, he took someone's viola and played the sekund. And danced, too, of course.
Met there some amazing elderly people, some from Belarus, some from Ukraine and even Monia Goldman, a real Warszawer yid who danced so beautifully.
Adrianne Greenbaum brought in some patch-tants tunes from Beregovsky's collection which she had arranged for the flute. I led a couple sets of Litvishe klezmer tunes. And overall, it was a real simkhe. Hopefully, just a first one in the Bensonhurst Jewish Community House.
