Mina Bern, z"l
Jan. 10th, 2010 07:32 pmMina Bern has passed away earlier today. She was a star of the Yiddish theater, a truly remarkable actress, and a great person.
She was born in Bialystok, then spent several years in Uganda, then Israel and finally settled down in New York City. What a unique life path! But also kind of typical, if one can say so, for her generation of Polish / Belarusian Jews.
I was privileged to meet her several times after I had moved to New York.

I took this picture with my cell-phone on June 22, 2009, at a Yiddish Actors and Friends' meeting.
Today we performed the "Mama's Loshn Kugel" show in memory of Mina.
