Klezmer concert in Newton, MA
Jul. 18th, 2010 10:48 pmJust came back from Newton that is 10-15 mins from Brandeis university campus. Greg Wall gave me a drive. That was an open-air concert that Hankus Netsky played with a group ( of great musicians )
The program seemed a bit schmaltzy to me. I got called to sit in, so I did and we had quite a nice jam all together. Met there a couple musicians with whom I had worked or whom I had met earlier. Grant Smith, the drummer, was in Shlemiel the First musical show which we did at Montclair State University back in January. Jim Guttman, a vet of the klezmer and jazz stage, was playing there, too. A very nice band. If it only were more improv and less schlager-saturated. People loved it though, many danced.
Now into a new week, 3 to go.
